JOB TITLE: Middle School Self-Contained Special Education Teacher

LOCATION: Madison Elementary School

START DATE: Fall 2026

SALARY: Per MEA Master Agreement

DESCRIPTION

The Madison District Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered professional to serve as a Middle School Self-Contained Special Education Teacher. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs in a self-contained classroom setting while fostering a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Special Education endorsement
  • Experience working with middle school students with diverse learning needs preferred
  • Knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and experience developing and implementing IEPs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and support service providers
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • CPI training or willingness to obtain training preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) based on students' strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Provide differentiated instruction in academic, behavioral, social, and functional skill areas
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports as needed
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations
