JOB TITLE: Middle School Self-Contained Special Education Teacher
LOCATION: Madison Elementary School
START DATE: Fall 2026
SALARY: Per MEA Master Agreement
DESCRIPTION
The Madison District Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered professional to serve as a Middle School Self-Contained Special Education Teacher. The successful candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs in a self-contained classroom setting while fostering a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate Special Education endorsement
- Experience working with middle school students with diverse learning needs preferred
- Knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and experience developing and implementing IEPs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and support service providers
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
- CPI training or willingness to obtain training preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) based on students' strengths, needs, and goals.
- Provide differentiated instruction in academic, behavioral, social, and functional skill areas
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Maintain a structured, positive, and supportive classroom environment
- Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports as needed
- Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations
