Job Description

EARLY CHILDHOOD; SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (Birth-3) 
 

Job Summary:

The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (Birth–3) provides early intervention services to infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities through home-based visits and ongoing family engagement. This role emphasizes guiding and coaching families and caregivers to support their child's development during everyday routines. Services are primarily delivered in natural environments, such as the child's home or childcare setting, in accordance with Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) and aligned with federal and state regulations. The teacher collaborates closely with families and a multidisciplinary team to promote meaningful, functional outcomes for each child.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct home visits to provide individualized early intervention services in natural environments
  • Guide and coach families and caregivers to integrate developmental strategies into daily routines
  • Develop and implement Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) in collaboration with families and team members
  • Monitor each child's developmental progress and maintain required documentation
  • Collaborate with service coordinators, therapists, and other team members to ensure coordinated, family-centered support
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal early intervention guidelines and timelines

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or a related field from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with one of the following endorsement combinations:
    • Early Childhood PK – General and Special Education (ZS), or
    • Early Childhood PK – General (ZS) and categorical Special Education endorsement (e.g., EI, CI, SLD), or
    • Early Childhood Education (ZA) and categorical Special Education endorsement
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with families
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, family-centered practices, and early intervention
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers with disabilities is preferred


 Salary 

Appropriate placement on the current Teacher's Master Agreement.
