Job Summary
The Temporary Casual Laborer for Vehicle Maintenance assists with preventative maintenance of Anchorage School District vehicles and equipment. Duties include basic service tasks such as lubrication, oil changes, and general upkeep of fleet vehicles and small equipment. Individuals will be exposed to shop environments, automotive fluids, and outdoor conditions.
Job Requirements
The following are required:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation, and over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to work in a shop and outdoor environment with exposure to vehicle fluids, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
The following are preferred:
- Basic knowledge of vehicle or equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with oil changes, lubrication procedures, or use of basic hand tools.
- One year of work/school experience in a vehicle maintenance environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with inspection and basic service of fleet vehicles and small engine equipment.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and work areas.
- Operates basic hand and shop tools in accordance with safety procedures.
- Works within established safety guidelines and follows proper handling procedures for tools and materials.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
