Job Description

Job Title: Summer Strength and Conditioning Coach
Location: Sweetwater County School District Number One
Employment Type: Seasonal/Summer Position

Job Purpose:
The Summer Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs to enhance student-athlete performance, reduce the risk of injury, and promote overall physical fitness. The coach will work with athletes of varying skill levels to develop strength, speed, agility, endurance, and flexibility while ensuring a safe and motivating training environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Develops and implements structured strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of student-athletes.
  2. Instructs proper techniques for weightlifting, speed, agility drills, plyometrics, and flexibility exercises.
  3. Monitors and assesses athletes' progress, adjusting training programs as needed to meet individual and team goals.
  4. Educates student-athletes on injury prevention, recovery techniques, and proper nutrition to support performance.
  5. Creates a positive and motivating training environment that encourages discipline, effort, and teamwork.
  6. Ensures the proper use and maintenance of weight room equipment and facilities.
  7. Enforces safety protocols and supervises athletes to minimize the risk of injury.
  8. Communicates effectively with athletes, parents, and coaching staff regarding training programs and expectations.
  9. Works collaboratively with head coaches and athletic trainers to coordinate conditioning programs with sport-specific demands.
  10. Assists in evaluating athletes' performance and progress to help guide their development.
  11. Maintains accurate records of attendance, workout progress, and injury reports.
  12. Complies with all school district policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Other Functions:

  1. Attends coaching meetings, staff development opportunities, and training sessions as required.
  2. Assists in organizing summer athletic camps or clinics as needed.
  3. Responds to inquiries from parents, students, and school personnel in a timely and professional manner.
  4. Stays updated on current trends and best practices in strength and conditioning through continued education.

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.
  • Ability to design sport-specific and age-appropriate training programs.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively work with student-athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention techniques, rehabilitation exercises, and first aid procedures.
  • Proficiency in using fitness and strength training equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.

Education, Certification, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field.
  • Wyoming PTSB PE Licensure.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
  • Previous coaching or strength and conditioning experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and assist athletes with proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to work in an indoor and outdoor training environment, including exposure to varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule:

  • Seasonal, summer position with a set training schedule.
  • Morning and/or afternoon sessions based on team and facility availability.

Environmental Demands:

  • Work is performed in a gym, weight room, or outdoor training areas.
  • Exposure to noise levels up to 90 decibels.
