Job Description

Summary
Support school program of speech-language services by providing speech-language assessments and therapy. Supervise TEA certified speech-language pathologists, interns and assistants in speech-language pathology (if eligibile, as needed). Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, provedures and regulations.

Essential Functions
1. Comply with federal and state laws and district policies and procedures in referral, placement and review process for speech-language services.
2. Administer appropriate diagnostic tests in all communication parameters to identify students with speech and language disabilities
3. Determine eligibility for speech-language service through review of referral information, observation and assessment data. Prepare evaulation repors in compliance with federal, state and district requirements.
4. Prepare and conduct admission, review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings in compliance with federal and state laws and district policies and procedures.
5. Identify communication needs and recommend therapeutic objectives for the development of the individual education plan (IEP).
6. Recommend approvpriate plaement and service delivery model to the ARD committee.
7. Provide therapy in the areas of articulation, fluency, language, voice, swallowing, augmentative and alternatice communication techniques and strategies.
8. Use appropriate technoloy to increase therapeutic effectiveness and maintenance of required documentation.
9. Use management practives that promote teamwork and collaborative decisions for students with speech and language disabilities.
10. Develop and maintain skills by applying knowledge gained through staff development and continuin education.
11. Supervise designated assistants, interns, and certified speech-lanugage pathologist for School Health and Related Service (SHARS) implementation.
12. Supervise speech-language pathology assistants and interns in compliance with rules of the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Lanugage Pathology.
13. Comply with State Board of Examiners for Speech-Lanuage Pathology and Audiology rules.
14. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essentiatl functions of the job.

Other Responsibilities
1. Participate in professional development activities as required by the district, to include self-selected professional development activities designed to extend professional knowledge and expertise.
2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals and follow district policies and procedures.
3. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech Therapy. Valid Texas license as a Speech Language Pathologist granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology; prior experience in a public school or pediatric setting, preferred, bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Ability to use accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions; ability to instruct and manage student behavior.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to work with frequent interruptions; prolonged use of computers and occasional prolonged and irregular hours; occasional district-wide travel. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license; subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
