As a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for directing workflow, managing inventory, overseeing quality, maintenance and housekeeping, providing training and technical oversight of lab assistants, troubleshooting, and scheduling. Participate in all quality assurance programs and ensure company, regulatory, Ministry of Health (MOH), SAMSHA, and ISO guidelines are observed. Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with matters that arise.
Shift: Day Shift. Monday - Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (rotating schedule)

- Ensure that all samples are properly labelled and identified before testing
- Follow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samples
- Ensure that all problem and fatal samples are processed as outlined in the department guidelines
- Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation, and results as and when required
- Act as a key contact point for the Problem Solving bench to ensure quick resolutions between the lab and external clients.
- Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
- Ensure the adequate quantity of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date order
- Ensure that Quality Control checks are performed as required in documented work procedures
- Responsible for following all relevant pre and/or post-analytical quality protocols as described in the company QA manual
- Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following the manufacturer’s instructions
- Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment daily
- Store and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manuals
- Act as a resource person for the medical laboratory staff with the handling of questions and concerns regarding technical inquiries
- Assist with proper scheduling, staffing and coordinating weekend shifts as required
- Assist in the implementation and creation of new policies, procedures and programs
- Report or follow up on test results from referral labs as required
- Interact with Department Head or designate to assist in non-routine problems or concerns
- Assist with the writing and updates of departmental manuals where appropriate, bring problems (technical/personal) to the attention of the Department Head or designate
- Graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or equivalent
- Required continuous standing/walking with the use of fine motor skills
- Required to perform some carrying and lifting a maximum of 50 pounds
- Exposed to biohazardous substances, chemicals, and noise variances
- Shift work required, including weekends
- Excellent data entry skills required
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to use critical thinking skills
- Full understanding of COC as it pertains to forensic testing
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-centred environment.
