Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor - Facility Service Operations, the successful candidate will provide a controlled and safe environment for City employees, tenants, and members of the public located within the Civic Centre Precinct which includes; Mississauga City Hall, Hazel McCallion Central Library, Living Arts Centre and Mississauga Celebration Square; including troubleshooting, repairing, monitoring, diagnosing and maintaining all HVAC, mechanical, electrical and life safety systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to requests for service from building tenants; make alterations or repairs to environmental, electrical and lighting systems as required.
- Monitor and control the building environmental systems by conducting regular inspections of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Carry out daily rounds and inspections of electrical equipment within the Civic Precinct and make adjustments as required.
- Maintain log and records of operational and maintenance activity; test and record power systems, utility readings and life safety systems.
- Participate in troubleshooting and problem solving activities and recommend ways to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of unit operations
- Ensure proper safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Liaise with external vendors to assist in carrying out work.
- Maintain good public relations by presenting a professional, knowledgeable and conscientious image to the public.
- Keep abreast of new technology and changes to regulations.
- Provide assistance to other Facility Service Operations staff members.
- Assist staff with the commissioning and handover of new or renovated facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of Grade 12 or approved equivalency.
- Technical school graduation with a trade certificate as Construction and Maintenance Electrician, (Certificate of Qualification 309A) as issued by the Province of Ontario is required.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Commercial Building Maintenance is required.
- Must have proven electrical skills with a broad knowledge in this field of work.
- General skills in mechanical field are highly preferred.
- Must be proficient in the reading and interpretation of blueprints, specifications and other technical documentation.
- Demonstrated problem solving, trouble shooting, and manual dexterity skills and the ability to climb ladders and work on equipment on roofs or other interior or exterior heights.
- Able to identify potential problems and respond to emergency situations by taking the appropriate corrective action.
- Carry out preventative and demand maintenance, electrical systems and equipment.
- Must be familiar with all applicable municipal and provincial codes, regulations, legislations and by-laws (i.e. Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Act, TSSA codes and regulations and WHMIS).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team based environment are essential.
- Must be proficient with computer systems in order to use the computerized Building Automation Systems and other software applications in use by the City.
- Must possess a Valid Ontario Class G drivers licence with a clean driving record that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga
- Must be available and willing to work overtime and/or provide emergency service after hour as required.
