What you will be doing
Verify the blast design for each shot to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that no danger arises when the blast is initiated.
Ensure that explosives are stored, handled, and used in a manner that does not pose any risk to the health and safety of people on or off site, and immediately escalate to project managers anything that could negatively affect this.
The Blasting Engineer determines the hazard zone in consultation with the Project Manager and police authorities.
Ensure that an appropriate written blast specification is prepared for each blast and approved by the Project Manager.
Ensure that blasting rules related to the storage, handling, and use of explosives are followed.
Ensure that the equipment and accessories used for blasting are suitable and safe, and that site conditions are in accordance with the blast specifications before work with explosives begins.
Ensure that unsafe equipment and accessories are taken out of use immediately.
Ensure that only authorized persons carry out work with explosives and that they are authorized in writing by the Ministry of the Interior.
Where applicable, verify the electrical integrity of the firing system or circuit to minimize the risk of misfire.
Ensure that a second check of all surface/subsurface connections is conducted to confirm they are still connected before being covered.
Ensure that unauthorized persons are not allowed within the hazard zone.
Check the status of all guards before the blast.
Ensure that all blasts are initiated from a safe location.
Inspect the face and certify that no misfires have occurred after the waiting period is completed.
Ensure that adequate ventilation is provided on site during the charging process.
Ensure that sufficient ventilation is available to remove harmful gases after blasting.
Ensure that the Safety Officer conducts periodic gas monitoring after blasting and records gas levels.
Monitor and audit compliance with explosives regulations in accordance with company policy.
