As a Product Safety & Environmental Engineer (WOME) you will join our River Class Destroyer Product Safety & Environmental Team. Reporting to the Engineering Lead – Product Safety, this role is integral to ensuring the safety, compliance, and certification of complex naval systems.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of warship design - gaining exposure to advanced systems including weapons, sensors, and propulsion, while contributing to critical systems engineering disciplines such as Verification & Validation, Human Systems Integration, Supportability, and Survivability.
- Support the River Class Destroyer Safety & Environmental Program, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and management system activities
- Coordinate with stakeholders and support safety meetings and reviews
- Assess engineering changes and identify design and integration risks
- Support project delivery activities as directed by engineering leadership
- Chair the WOME Integration Sub-CPT
- Develop and review key documentation (e.g., certification plans, safety case inputs, dangerous goods standards)
- Support certification workshops, training, and objective evidence development
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
- 4+ years in complex engineering projects (Defense preferred)
- 4+ years developing Safety Cases
- Experience working in teams with leadership capability
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., DStan, MIL-STD, LR NSR, ANEP-77)
- Experience applying Systems Engineering methodologies
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
