Job Description
Based in our National Support Center in south Denver, (I-25 & Colorado Blvd) Tuff Shed is recruiting for an experienced Accounting Manager to join our busy and growing accounting team.
Reporting to the VP of Accounting, the Accounting Manager will be recording, reconciling, and reporting transactions within the general ledger, including preparing journal entries, schedules and analysis for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Essential job duties for this position include but are not strictly limited to:
Sales and use taxes and property taxes:
Ensures compliance with tax laws
Reviews tax submissions to taxation authorities at the federal, state, city and county levels accurately and in a timely manner
Obtains most favorable tax position for the company
Updates the company sales tax database as tax rates change
Ensures registration is complete with any newly established tax nexus
Maintains electronic banking database for sales and use tax payments
Coordinates audits by various taxation authorities
Negotiates with tax authorities over tax payment issues
Research and drafts technical accounting memos to support the basis for tax positions taken
General Accounting:
Manage full cycle fixed asset reporting
Manage full cycle lease reporting under ASC 842
Assist with month-end close to ensure process is timely and producing accurate financials
Reviews selected balance sheet account reconciliations monthly
Lead and develop direct reports
Draft technical accounting memos to support our position under GAAP
Perform all other duties, tasks and responsibilities assigned by Tuff Shed Management
Leadership/Management:
2 – 4 direct reports
Leads, coaches, and develops accounting team members to support both individual growth and departmental objectives
Establishes clear expectations, monitors performance, and provides timely feedback and accountability
Promotes a culture of accuracy, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and customer service within the account department
Prioritizes workloads and allocates resources to ensure deadlines and business objectives are achieved
Assists in recruiting, onboarding, training, and retaining accounting personnel
Serves as a technical resource and mentor to accounting staff
Builds strong working relationships across operations, sales, HR, IT, and executive leadership
Supports organizational initiatives, acquisitions, system implementations, and process integration efforts as needed
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Proven, hands-on experience in a responsible accounting position. Experience in the manufacturing industry is preferred.
Experience in an Accounting Manager capacity highly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet applications required. Experience in utilizing ERP software, especially JDE is a plus
Experience in utilizing Customer Relations Management (CRM) software – including Salesforce.com, or similar systems is highly preferred
Ability to use mathematical, accounting, and financial tools as they apply to Tuff Shed business
Ability to solve business problems using sound logic and good judgment
Ability to prepare written correspondence and reports which create a professional image for Tuff Shed
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including customers, business partners, suppliers, co-workers, managers and the general public
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Tax preferred
