Purchasing is focused on acquiring and stocking inventory in support of our customers and providing high-level service to our teammates in support of the operation. Responsibilities
- Oversees and supervises all Purchasing department staff and operations
- Manages physical inventory counts including reconciliation of reporting metrics to corporate Purchasing/Accounting departments
- Maintains appropriate pharmacy inventory min/max levels, forecasting and purchasing from wholesaler and warehouse
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels in accordance with out-of-stock tolerances and days-on-hand metrics
- Works with any backordered drugs from the wholesaler or warehouse for substitution or procure within another pharmacy
- Resolves any issues related to purchasing from internal and external customers
- Manages and troubleshoots pharmacy perpetual inventory system including cycle counts
- Notifies the pharmacy management of any “temporary out’ shortages that could result in the potential need to change patient therapy
- Manages vendor relations
- Oversees non-pharmacy related purchasing for the support of the operation
- Ensures that customer returns are re-stocked in a timely manner
- Responsible for maintenance and QA of pharmacy formulary
- Assists with implementing new contracts/programs to field locations
- Responsible for verification of monthly expiring medication check for all pharmacy inventory
- Monitors strategic buy-in programs and initiatives for the pharmacy
- Logs information in the system and acquires all new drug products needed by pharmacy
- Identifies additional cost savings opportunities or problem resolution to reduce cost/expense
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Manager
Qualifications
Education/Learning Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Three or more years’ experience in LTC pharmacy; two or more years’ experience in LTC purchasing preferred
- Advanced understanding of pharmacy procurement and inventory
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong workflow and performance management skills as well as scheduling skills
Licenses/Certifications:
- As required by state regulations and business needs
