Summary
The Millwright Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing equipment issues, repairing breakdowns, performing preventive and predictive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This role ensures processing equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably in a fast-paced industrial food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical failures on processing and packaging equipment.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to support equipment reliability and line efficiency.
- Maintain detailed shift logs, work orders, and maintenance records to ensure accurate data reporting.
- Improve line performance and support operational goals through proactive maintenance.
- Work independently and collaboratively with maintenance and production teams.
- Provide guidance and coordination to ensure maintenance tasks are completed effectively and safely.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, and company standards.
Typical Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certification
Relevant Experience
- Must have a minimum of two years of maintenance experience and certification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, SDS, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Commitment to safe work practices and hazard awareness.
Other Information
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 2 weeks on nights and 2 weeks on days, working every other weekend.
- Dedicated employee shuttle service available from Winnipeg and Brandon.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports.
- Forklift and aerial lift operation required (training and certification provided); must meet fall protection requirements.
- Must have a basic understanding of drive components, bearings, sprockets, chains, belts, and plumbing components.
- Must be capable of performing cutting and welding to meet company standards.
- Employees must supply their own basic hand tools.
- Must be able to communicate verbally in a professional manner.
- Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, and maneuver in close quarters; stand for long periods on concrete floors; and occasionally work from heights.
- Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
