CITITRENDS is seeking a Merchandise Buyer to drive product selection, assortment strategy, and vendor partnerships that align with our brand and meet the needs of our customers.

 

This role plays a critical part in delivering a compelling and competitive assortment by analyzing trends, managing inventory, and making data-driven buying decisions. The Merchandise Buyer will partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, and Store Operations to ensure product strategies translate into strong in-store execution and business performance.

 

What You’ll Do

Merchandise Strategy & Trend Analysis

  • Research and identify emerging trends to build assortments aligned with brand positioning, customer demand, and sales objectives

  • Act as a true student of the business—regularly shop CITITRENDS and competitors to stay informed and inspired

  • Analyze sales performance, market trends, and customer feedback to inform buying decisions

  • Develop reports and presentations to communicate insights, strategies, and opportunities

Vendor Management & Negotiation

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to maximize margin and value

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and suppliers

  • Partner with vendors to ensure product quality, consistency, and alignment with brand standards

Inventory & Financial Management

  • Monitor inventory levels to maintain optimal stock and minimize risk

  • Recommend reorders, markdowns, or discontinuations based on performance data

  • Manage purchasing budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness and profitability

  • Track spending and align decisions with financial goals and margin expectations

Cross-Functional Partnership & Execution

  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Marketing, Planning, and Store Operations to align assortments with promotions and store execution

  • Ensure product selection supports visual merchandising and in-store presentation strategies

  • Conduct market visits to evaluate assortment performance, brand standards, and identify opportunities for improvement

Additional Responsibilities

  • Stay current on industry trends, competitive landscape, and consumer behavior

  • Support change management initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support business priorities

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends

  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management capabilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills required

  • Experience with buying systems and retail tools

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving retail environment

  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for vendor meetings, market visits, and industry events

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field

  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Merchandise Buyer or in a similar retail role

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct buying experience required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work on a computer

  • Frequent use of hands for data entry and system navigation

  • Ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written)

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
