POSITION SUMMARY: (WHAT, HOW, WHY)
The Assistant Production Manager (APM) supports the Production Manager in leading daily operations and team performance in Closeout Goods. This role provides hands-on leadership across production, ensures operational standards are consistently met, and serves as the manager-on-duty in the absence of the Production Manager. The APM plays a critical role in driving production efficiency, team development and execution of Goodwill’s mission and brand standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Five (5) years of Retail or equivalent experience preferred
- Two (2) years of progressive retail leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Experience training, coaching, and developing associates
- Proficiency in scheduling, payroll, and workforce management systems
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Basic math and computer proficiency
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including openings, closings, weekends, and holidays
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS: Proper lifting, stacking and sorting methods preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations & Execution
- Partner with the Production Manager to oversee daily operations
- Execute administrative and clerical functions such as ordering supplies and operational reporting
- Ensure efficient production and pricing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment at all times
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, coach, train, and support team members
- Support onboarding and ongoing training to ensure consistent execution of operational and service standards
- Provide feedback and partner with leadership and HR on performance management and corrective action when needed
Scheduling, Labor & Workforce Management
- Maintain employee schedules & ensure appropriate coverage while meeting payroll targets
- Manage time and attendance in HRIS and ensure accurate and timely payroll submission
- Adjust staffing levels to align with production needs and business demands
- Manage the vehicle fleet and reporting
Production, Merchandising & Inventory
- Ensure smooth and secure flow of goods in compliance with safety, security, and operational standards
- Monitor pricing practices and merchandise quality to ensure consistency and accuracy
Safety, Compliance & Communication
- Maintain a safe work environment for employees by enforcing safety and loss prevention standards
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Maintain effective communication with leadership, other locations, and support departments
Mission Support
- Collaborate with Employment and Training programs to support Goodwill’s mission and community impact
Supervisory Responsibility
- Direct supervisory responsibility for Production Leaders, Merchandise Processors, Material Handlers, temporary workers, and program participants
- Work a flexible schedule in support of production including night, weekend, and holiday shifts
- Ability to effectively communicate in English with internal and external customers
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, lift, and climb for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to perform frequent computer-based work
- Regular, predictable attendance is required
Working Conditions
- Primary Environment: warehouse environment
- Moderate noise levels typical of a warehouse environment
- Exposure to donated goods and varying temperatures
- Driving may be required
