Legacybox is looking for a hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) & Head of Video Systems Engineering to lead the software systems, operational technology, media workflows, and AI-driven processing pipelines behind our national digitizing operation.
This is not a traditional SaaS CTO role. This position sits at the intersection of software engineering, physical operations, workflow systems, media processing, AI enhancement, and production-scale automation. You will help architect and evolve the technology that powers how millions of analog memories safely move through our digitization pipeline each year.
Location: Chattanooga, TN (Hybrid / Onsite)
Responsibilities of the Chief Technology Officer:
- Lead and evolve the Digifactory Operating System that powers Legacybox production workflows
- Design and improve factory automation systems, workflow routing, production tracking, and quality control systems
- Architect and optimize end-to-end video processing pipelines from capture through delivery
- Build scalable media workflows utilizing FFmpeg and related media processing tools
- Lead R&D initiatives related to AI-driven media enhancement, denoising, artifact reduction, normalization, upscaling, and restoration
- Improve software reliability, throughput, operational visibility, and production efficiency
- Oversee integrations involving Shopify, cloud delivery systems, metadata handling, and customer order workflows
- Partner closely with production leadership and frontline teams to improve physical and digital workflows
- Analyze production bottlenecks and identify opportunities for automation and operational improvement
- Lead technical strategy while remaining deeply involved in hands-on system development and implementation
- Support technical teams across software, operations, and media engineering initiatives
What a Typical Day Looks Like:
- Reviewing production workflows and identifying operational bottlenecks
- Working directly with engineering and production teams to improve systems and throughput
- Designing or refining media processing pipelines and automation tools
- Evaluating video quality, encoding performance, and AI enhancement outputs
- Troubleshooting operational software or workflow issues within the Digifactory
- Collaborating with cloud, operations, and product teams to improve customer experience
- Prototyping and testing new systems or media processing workflows
- Balancing production quality, scalability, reliability, and unit economics
You’ll Likely Do Well in This Role If You’ve Previously:
- Built or led operational software systems tied to physical workflows or manufacturing environments
- Designed media processing pipelines or large-scale video systems
- Worked with FFmpeg, encoding pipelines, or GPU-accelerated media workloads
- Led engineering efforts tied to logistics, workflow automation, or production systems
- Managed cross-functional technical teams while remaining highly hands-on technically
- Worked at the intersection of software systems and operational execution

Technical Experience Preferred:
- Strong experience with video codecs including H.264, H.265/HEVC, ProRes, and related formats
- Advanced knowledge of FFmpeg or similar media processing tooling
- Experience with GPU-accelerated processing for video or image workloads
- Familiarity with computer vision, AI-enhanced video processing, or media restoration workflows
- Experience with Shopify integrations, workflow systems, or operational software platforms
- Strong understanding of cloud systems, file handling, automation, and production-scale architecture
