Overview
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Vice President, Data. In this role, you will lead the function responsible for data infrastructure, engineering, governance, and analytics across North America. You will own the enterprise data strategy, modernizing our architecture on Microsoft Fabric and driving a multi-year transformation roadmap. The ideal candidate must be a seasoned data leader with the vision to define our future state and the drive to deliver it. You must thrive in a complex, dynamic environment, possess exceptional stakeholder management skills, and have a proven track record of leading high-performing technical teams through significant organizational change.
Responsibilities
- Lead a data function responsible for data infrastructure, engineering, governance, and analytics for HarperCollins across North America.
- Build a cohesive team of leaders across data disciplines and design the organization for accelerated delivery and future scalability.
- Own the enterprise data strategy, focusing on modernizing and converging data architecture on Microsoft Fabric.
- Engage and consult with senior leadership in IT and across the business to ensure data strategy deliverables align with business needs.
- Oversee the execution of data transformation, migrating existing solutions and reporting platforms to the Fabric platform to simplify the data estate.
- Optimize data quality and the delivery of analytics solutions through governed data products, DataOps, engineering standards, and observability.
- Manage and extend a portfolio of consulting and vendor partners to access specialized skills and knowledge.
- Foster effective partnerships between the data function and data science, solutions, engineering, and operations teams globally.
- Prepare the data function for AI integration by organizing and presenting data semantically to enable effective agent integration with the enterprise platform.
- Partner with the SVP for Data, Engineering, and Architecture on long-term strategy and roadmap development.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in Data and Analytics roles.
- 5+ years of experience leading data teams specifically managing high-volume, high-complexity ERP data.
- Proven ability to devise strategic goals within a complex business environment and motivate teams to achieve them.
- Capability to envision how data creates value for the business in the future and communicate this to audiences across the company.
- Exceptional ability to engage, influence, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to align business priorities with technical execution.
- Fluency in modern data and analytics platforms, including Lakehouse architectures, infrastructure, data modeling, pipelines, and BI tools.
- Extensive experience with Microsoft’s cloud data platform components and their evolution into Fabric.
- Strong background in delivering complex data engineering solutions with rigorous technical standards.
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level data transformations and organizational change.
- Strong understanding of the analytical potential of AI and its integration with enterprise data platforms.
- Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) integrations is highly preferred.
- DAMA-DMBOK certification or similar data management accreditation is an advantage.

The salary range for this position is $240,000-$260,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
