Job Description

Job Summary

Works collaboratively and proactively with other members of the health care team including the Ophthalmologist to coordinate and facilitate patient care. The job profile encompasses a multitude of tasks that contribute to the efficient operations of the health care practice. Key public relations position which may involve dealing with patients' compliments and concerns.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Other duties may be assigned.

Focuses verbal communications in patient/customer care, business operations and/or topics to create a positive work environment.

Understands and is able to perform functions related to computer programs, telecommunications equipment and other required technology.

Maintains neat appearance of work area, patient care area and waiting area, conducting light housekeeping as needed.

Provides superior, individualized customer service for patients, families and other visitors.

Proactively works to identify and resolve patient concerns and refers to appropriate party if necessary.

Assists provider with exams, minor procedures or treatments, obtaining appropriate consent(s) as needed.

Provides education material to patient as directed by the provider.

Provides age/culturally appropriate care as delegated.

Assists with maintaining just in time inventory of supplies and medications, consulting with appropriate staff as needed.

Utilizes appropriate techniques in cleaning equipment, work area and exam rooms. Uses proper processes for reporting malfunction of equipment and takes out of service as needed.

Prepares charts for patient visit.

Prepares patient for exam by conducting patient history and assessing and recording visual acuity.

Neutralizes and records prescription using lensometer.

Measures intraocular pressure and corneal curvature.

Performs special testing (GDX, VF, Fundus photos).

Prepares cataract transfer for charge entry.

Schedules procedures for patients including cataract surgeries and lasers.

Requirements

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent with six to twelve months experience.

Required Experience: Knowledge of machines: Slit lamp, tonometer, lensometer, auto refractor, GDX, visual field, camera, tonopen, BAT, computer, keratometer.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required within 12 months of hire.

  • Neonate: <30 days
  • Infant: <1 year
  • Middle Adult: 30 to <60 years
  • Serves patients in areas other than patient care.
  • No responsibility to treat or care for patients.
