Job Description
Ensure tax compliance, accuracy in tax assessments, and adherence to legal frameworks across Latin American operations. The professional will directly execute domestic tax routines (Brazil) while providing governance, monitoring, and auditing of outsourced accounting firms and local partners in international markets (Mexico and Colombia), mitigating tax risks, and safeguarding the company against dual taxation or compliance penalties.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Brazil Tax Operations (Direct Execution):
Perform the assessment, verification, and reconciliation of corporate income taxes: IRPJ (Corporate Income Tax) and CSLL (Social Contribution on Net Profits) under either the Actual Profit (Lucro Real) or Presumed Profit (Lucro Presumido) regimes.
Execute the monthly assessment of taxes on revenue and rendering of services: ISS (Municipal Service Tax—focusing on withholding rules and place of service provisions), PIS, and COFINS.
Validate and manage withholding taxes (WHT) on incoming services (IRRF, CSRF, and withheld ISS).
Ensure the timely submission of all local accessory obligations (such as EFD-Contribuições, EFD-Reinf, DCTF, DCTFWeb, and ECF).
Governance & Management – Mexico (Partner Auditing):
Oversee and reconcile the calculation of corporate ISR (Impuesto Sobre la Renta), managing the 30% federal rate on corporate service profits.
Control and audit the assessment of IVA (Impuesto al Valor Agregado) levied on local services and the import of services (standard 16% rate).
Audit withholding taxes on independent contractors, payroll-related tax items, and mandatory employee profit-sharing allocations (PTU - Participación de los Trabajadores en las Utilidades), validating their impact on the local fiscal base.
Ensure local accounting firms correctly transmit electronic accounting records and mandatory tax reports to the SAT (Servicio de Administración Tributaria).
Governance & Management – Colombia (Partner Auditing):
Oversee and audit the calculation of the corporate Impuesto sobre la Renta y Complementarios focused on revenue generated from service provisions.
Monitor and validate the accuracy of IVA (Impuesto sobre las Ventas) applied to services and software licensing (standard 19% rate), assessing local VAT withholding mechanisms (ReteIva).
Control and reconcile the ICA (Impuesto de Industria y Comercio), the municipal tax levied directly on service activities, alongside its respective withholding mechanism (ReteIca).
Validate the correct application of the general income tax withholding at the source (Retefuente) applied by customers or levied on local vendors.
Ensure regular and accurate data submission to DIAN (Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales) platforms by local accounting partners.
Accounting Reconciliation and Reporting:
Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations of all tax accounts (payable, recoverable, and withheld at source) utilizing double-entry bookkeeping methodology.
Prepare corporate calculation sheets and serve as the main point of contact for internal and external audits validating LatAm tax balances.
Qualifications:
Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Law, or related fields.
Technical Experience: Solid experience in Brazilian tax routines (specifically IRPJ, CSLL, ISS, PIS, COFINS) and complete mastery of accounting principles.
International & Third-Party Experience: Proven experience interfacing with, managing, and auditing deliverables from international accounting firms or external consultancies, with a strong understanding of
Withholding Taxes (WHT) in cross-border service transactions.
Languages: Spanish, advanced to fluent level (essential for interpreting SAT/DIAN regulations, auditing local tax returns, and conducting alignments in Mexico and Colombia). English, Advanced to fluent level (essential for corporate reporting to headquarters or global stakeholders, including UK connections if applicable).
