We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to support software quality efforts across government and public sector IT projects by developing and executing test strategies, ensuring compliance, and driving continuous improvement of testing processes. This position will be a full-time contract role and is currently remote, with potential for occasional onsite work in Chicago, IL.
What You’ll Do
Develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts across functional, regression, integration, UAT, and smoke testing
Identify, document, and track defects using tools such as Jira or ServiceNow, ensuring timely resolution in collaboration with development teams
Drive QA efforts for software releases, including both manual and automated testing
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by coordinating sessions with stakeholders, documenting results, and facilitating sign-off
Validate that systems meet business requirements, security standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and public-sector compliance standards
Develop and maintain test automation frameworks using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or similar
Conduct API testing and validate data integrity across integrated systems
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
Prepare and deliver QA status reports, defect analysis, and test summary documentation
Document test cases, test steps, and expected results clearly and consistently
Collaborate with business analysts to review requirements and identify gaps in testability early in the lifecycle
Communicate effectively with developers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
Support continuous improvement of QA processes, tools, templates, and standards
What You’ll Need
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
5+ years of QA or software testing experience, preferably within government or public sector environments
Experience with both manual and automated testing methodologies
Experience working within SDLC frameworks including Agile/Scrum and Waterfall
Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Selenium, TestComplete, QTP, or similar
Experience with defect tracking and test management tools
Experience with API testing
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to non-technical stakeholders
Understanding of data privacy requirements including PII and regulated data handling
Preferred:
Experience testing web applications and APIs
Familiarity with Section 508 or WCAG accessibility testing
Experience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner
Experience supporting government agencies or public-sector IT environments
Experience working in SLA-driven or contract-based delivery environments

Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

$100,000 - $120,000 per yearThe pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role receive paid time off and may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
