The Clinical Practice & Development Coordinator (CPDC) provides divisional- and organizational-level clinical education, professional development, leadership, and expert consultative support across nursing and patient care services. Under limited supervision, the CPDC ensures effective dissemination of organizational information, provides mentorship and guidance for divisional and unit-based work, and serves as an expert-level educational resource, consultant, collaborator, facilitator, and change agent with organization-wide accountability.


The CPDC maintains regular engagement with educators, Senior Clinical Nurses (SCNs), Clinical Nurse Specialists, managers, and directors to align unit and divisional priorities with hospital, and system-wide initiatives. The CPDC leads comprehensive organizational assessment, development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of models for professional practice that foster high-quality, cost-effective patient care, exceptional clinical practice, and continuous professional development of staff. Independently interpreting performance and outcomes data, the CPDC evaluates trends, establishes organizational standards for professional development, and supports the adoption of evidence-based practices. The scope of responsibility and accountability aligns with professional standards and continuously evolves to meet the changing demands of the healthcare practice environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Engagement & Communication

o Maintain assigned clinical partnerships and conduct regular meetings with educators, SCNs, managers, and/or directors.

o Disseminate organizational, hospital-wide, and system-level updates and ensure alignment across units and divisions.

o Serve as an advocate for clinical needs, elevating concerns and perspectives to organizational leadership.


Consultation, Mentorship & Support

o Provide expert consultation to direct care staff, educators, and leaders regarding clinical education, competency validation, and professional practice.

o Serve as an escalation resource for complex or sensitive educational and practice-related issues.

o Mentor and guide unit and divisional educators, and clinical leaders to strengthen outcomes and professional development efforts.


Professional Practice Leadership

o Lead the assessment, development, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of professional practice models.

o Promote evidence-based practice, clinical excellence, and cost-effective care delivery across the organization.

o Establish and support standards for professional development and clinical education.


Education & Program Development

o Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs and initiatives that address organizational and divisional needs.

o Lead and/or participate in large-scale, interdisciplinary educational projects and system-wide initiatives.

o Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency, cross-coverage, and shared expertise across the department.


Data Analysis & Outcomes Management

o Collect and analyze performance data and outcome metrics to identify trends and gaps in practice.

o Develop and implement improvement strategies to enhance clinical performance and educational effectiveness.

o Monitor and evaluate the impact of education and practice changes on patient and staff outcomes.


Change Management & Organizational Effectiveness

o Serve as a change agent to support adoption of new practices, policies, and system initiatives.

o Facilitate team and organizational readiness for change through education, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

o Utilize organizational assessment strategies to improve team performance and effectiveness.


Collaboration & Leadership

o Partner with nursing leadership, interprofessional teams, and system stakeholders to advance strategic priorities.

o Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.

o Align divisional efforts with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

o Other duties as assigned





Work Experience

Required

  • Active Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. 
  • A master’s degree in nursing or healthcare field from an accredited graduate program. Individuals currently enrolled in an accredited master’s in nursing or healthcare field program will be considered. BSN is required if a graduate degree is not in nursing. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required; nursing experience preferred.
  • Specialty Certification by accredited program preferred, and required within 18 months of hire (NPD, CNE)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Clinical & Professional Knowledge

o Knowledge of clinical operations, business processes, and healthcare regulations (TJC, COMAR, MBON)

o Knowledge of professional nursing practice models and adult learning principles

o Understanding of competency development and management

o Program development across the educational continuum (student nurse through nurse leaders)

o Ability to evaluate and implement evidence-based practices

Education & Program Development Expertise

o Experience providing education in clinical, classroom, and simulation settings

o Clinical education and curriculum development

o Developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to enhance clinical quality and professional growth

o Experience leading organizational or divisional education initiatives

o Learning management systems, instructional design, or training content development (preferred)

o Experience with implementing clinical equipment, new clinical skills, processes and or procedures. 

o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

o Smartsheet experience (preferred)

o Experience with educational software and instructional design (preferred)
