Position Summary
The Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations within a fast-paced food production environment. This role will work closely with Operations, Quality, and Production teams to support process improvement, food safety, and production efficiency initiatives. The intern will be exposed to bacon manufacturing processes and will assist in driving improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.
 
Responsibilities
  • Assist with monitoring daily production activities to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met
  • Support data collection and analysis related to production metrics such as yield, downtime, and throughput
  • Assist in identifying process improvement opportunities and support implementation of solutions
  • Partner with Quality and Food Safety teams to ensure compliance with GMPs, HACCP, and sanitation standards
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for production or quality issues
  • Support production documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Assist with inventory tracking, material flow, and waste reduction initiatives
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives such as 5S and continuous improvement projects
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
 
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Operations, Engineering, Food Science, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel preferred)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Willingness to work on the production floor, including refrigerated environments
  • Ability to work on-site
 
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments, including exposure to cold temperatures, noise, and food production areas. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high. Must be able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be comfortable working around food processing equipment and in refrigerated areas. Must have basic computer knowledge and be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
