JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Gatehouse Attendant assists the Operations Manager with overseeing the daily collection operations of the transfer station, addressing escalated customer issues and training new and existing Gatehouse staff.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment when and where required.
- Comply and enforce compliance with the company’s cash handling procedures.
- Oversee the daily collection operations at the transfer station.
- Train new and existing Gatehouse staff.
- Assist with scheduling resources to support gatehouse operations.
- Provide courteous, professional customer service.
- Address escalated customer issues.
- Assist with managing emergency situations, including directing traffic, contacting emergency services and reporting to management.
- Comply with all governmental regulations pertaining to waste disposal, metal purchasing and shipping.
- Monitor and record incoming waste collection trucks and inspect the contents of incoming vehicles.
- Collect disposal fees from customers.
- Report all incidents to the Operations Manager.
- File collection records and safeguard cash in the appropriate location.
- Review gatehouse paperwork for accuracy.
- Monitor and respond to radio calls.
- Obtain a debriefing from the outgoing attendant, examine activity and collection records from the previous shift and note any problems.
- Maintains site reports in compliance with city, state and federal regulations pertaining to the transfer station.
- Process, distribute and file confidential and sensitive documents.
- Draft routine reports, e.g. free dump day, yard and container inventory.
- Operate office equipment, including a PC, scanner, copier, fax machine, tablets, two-way radios, video monitors, and a multi-line phone system.
- Process all paperwork and money transactions promptly, efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain the trailer weight spreadsheet to ensure trailers are loaded to the optimal weight and the facility daily volume is accurately recorded for the site operating plan (SOP).
- Report damaged inbound and outbound trailers facility to operators.
- Report any possible SOP violations to the Operations Manager.
- Complete and submit the waste screening forms.
- Collect payments from customers, update accounts and transport deposits to the bank.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- At least one year of experience performing clerical or administrative tasks
- Written and verbal fluency in English
- Working knowledge of office administration practices and the ability to use standard office equipment – phone, computer, scanner, fax machine
- Ability to work efficiently and productively with minimum direct supervision
- Basic computer and internet navigation skills
- Basic math skills
- Ability to identify the size and type of collection vehicles
- Ability to measure non-standard trucks and compute load sizes in cubic yards
- Ability to identify hazardous and special wastes
- Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

- Availability to work after standard business hours and weekends, as scheduled
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years of experience performing clerical or administrative tasks
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Waste Screening license after one year of employment
