Church Musician - Substitute
Job Description
The role of substitute musician (pianist organist) is to prayerfully and skillfully perform for parish liturgies and other designated celebrations for St. John LaLande Parish in Blue Springs, MO. Weekend Masses are held at 4:30pm on Saturday and 8:00am and 10:30am on Sundays.
Duties:
- Plays hymns, psalm and ordinary, along with preludes, postludes, etc.
- 45 minute warm-up rehearsal before Mass.
- Temporary supervision of volunteer musicians or cantors.
- Opportunity to play for weddings and funerals for additional compensation.
- Duties may involve Thursday rehearsal with cantors.
- This position reports to the liturgy and music director and Pastor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to collaborate with others and practice outside of rehearsal.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to lead the congregation without overpowering them.
- Ability to improvise to fill in time as needed.
- Ability to communicate well and efficiently utilize time.
- Willing to learn how to use our iPad to adjust the volume of cantors and lectors during Mass.
Qualifications:
- Ideally, a practicing Catholic with ethical standards, personal integrity and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Passionate about the Church, Liturgy and Music and building relationships.
