We're looking for someone to join our team as a Laboratory Technician who:
The laboratory is an active and integral part of the health care team at Clinica Sierra Vista and our satellite facilities. The role of the Lab Technician is to help ensure the smooth, accurate, and timely function of the procedures performed in lab as described below.
Essential Functions:
- Specimen Collection
- Perform venipuncture and finger and/or heel stick to collect blood sample as required using proper tubes and materials. Prepare blood smears when required following proper procedures to maintain sample integrity
- Proper labeling of all specimens collected with name, chart #, date, and test(s) ordered.
- Instruct and assist patients and arrange for new specimens as required (urine, stool, sputum, etc.)
- Contact patients and arrange for new specimens as required.
- Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, aliquoting, and storing them appropriately
- Specimen Handling
- Centrifuge, separate, mix, and/or distribute all samples as required. Handle all paperwork appropriate.
- Prepare all specimens properly with paperwork necessary for transfer to reference labs.
- Process all samples which are brought in by patients with properly handling and necessary paperwork.
- Laboratory Supplies
- Keep track of all laboratory supplies that relate to job duties and notify technologist well before last item is used so that stocks may be maintained in a smooth manner.
- Check all dated items that apply to job duties and notify technician before materials outdate.
- Perform CLIA Point of Care Testing (POCT) as required.
- Other responsibilities as required.
You'll be successful with the following qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Minimum of two years experience in a medical setting.
- Certification as a medical assistant (CMA) or phlebotomy technician (CPT) preferred.
- Must adhere to Clinica Sierra Vista’s employee health/immunization requirements or provide a valid exemption request for subsequent approval.
