Who We Want
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Shipping/Receiving Supervisor to become an integral part of our team. This position will be working between our locations in Fenton and Holly, Michigan.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan, organize and monitor the shipping and receiving of all materials to be shipped out or that are received.
- Visually size up 55k+ loads of steel and determine the best way to safely load and unload trucks to maximize space and time.
- Communicate with trucking companies to set up loads.
- Responsible for directing and performing operations to ensure that all shipping and receiving related activities meet the applicable requirements.
- Supervise employees, evaluate job performance, coordinate jobs, and advise on the instruction of shipping and receiving department.
- Delegate work to employees in the department and monitor work on a regular basis.
- Coordinate the work with the other supervisors on the plant floor.
- Direct the movement of shipments from shipping points to storage/and or work areas.
- Knowledge of load limits and any permits needed for each shipment.
- Monitor the unloading and loading of all materials into and out of the Shipping and Receiving Department to ensure the safe transport of all materials.
- Ensure safety and efficiency of the department. Make employees aware of the safety practices and the possible health hazards and precautionary measures.
- Responsible for relaying information about short shipments/damaged items to Purchasing Department.
- Write shippers and bills of lading for outbound shipments.
- Receive in pack slips daily with accuracy and meeting the 24 hours turnover time.
- Pack slips are given to Accounts Payable within 24 hours.
- Attend meetings to discuss jobs that are upcoming and/or ongoing.
What Requirements Are Needed
Education: Minimum: High School Diploma. Prefer: Associate’s Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management. Equivalent experience considered.
Experience: Prefer 5+ years of experience at a Manufacturing & Fabrication business. Prefer two (2) years of experience in a foreman/supervisory role in a manufacturing setting. Equivalent experience considered.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to supervise personnel, evaluate job performance, coordinate jobs, and advise on the instruction items in the Shipping and Receiving Department.
- Effectively able to determine space requirements and positioning of shipments in appropriate areas, along with ensuring the overall safety of received items.
- Possess good negotiation skills - necessary when it comes to dealing with truck companies and vendors.
- Knowledge of safety requirements - this includes training, coordination, and maintenance of safety-related functions and personnel for this department.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, and maintains records of the reviews, inspection results, and performance documentation.
- Must process strong communication skills.
- Organizing meetings and training sessions as and when the need arises.
- Adaptable to change and display flexibility, ability to work within deadlines.
- Ability to manage, communicate and develop your department.
- Knowledge of MS Office and other systems supporting the Company’s operational needs (e.g. ERP system).
