The Role

The Director, Coach Engagement is a key strategic leader within USTA Coaching responsible for shaping, overseeing, and elevating all externally facing communication, marketing, and engagement efforts for the coaching community. This role ensures consistent, high-quality messaging across platforms and serves as the strategic hub for coordinating marketing, content, social media, PR, and communications efforts that support USTA Coaching’s mission, programs, and brand. The Director will lead the strategy and approval processes for newsletters, email marketing, digital engagement, creative campaigns, and coach-facing content that drives awareness, connection, and value. This position also plays an important role in informing and strengthening the USTA Coaching content calendar, ensuring coaching priorities, stories, and initiatives are integrated seamlessly across channels.

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy that elevates awareness, value, and participation in USTA Coaching programs and services.
  • Serve as the central leader coordinating cross-functional work with Marketing, Content, Social Media, PR, and Communications to ensure cohesive messaging and unified storytelling.
  • Establish annual engagement goals, KPIs, and success measures tied to coach satisfaction, reach, and retention.
  • Provide strategic oversight and final approvals for all externally facing materials representing USTA Coaching.
  • Shape and contribute to the USTA Coaching content calendar, ensuring strategic alignment, timely storytelling, and consistent representation of coaching initiatives across all platforms.

Content & Campaign Oversight

  • Work in partnership with marketing to guide the development and planning of USTA Coaching communications, providing oversight and final approval across newsletters, email campaigns, and touchpoints.
  • Guide story development, content themes, creative concepts, and messaging frameworks that reflect the needs and interests of the coaching community.
  • Partner with Creative and Marketing teams to develop innovative campaigns, promotional materials, and content assets that elevate USTA Coaching’s brand
  • Collaborate closely with Social Media teams to support social strategy, ensure coaching priorities are represented, and enable them to capture the content, stories, and assets needed for effective execution.

Coach Engagement & Community Building

  • Develop engagement initiatives that foster meaningful connections with coaches, deepen loyalty, and strengthen the overall coaching ecosystem.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance coach-facing communications and create new touchpoints that add value throughout the member lifecycle.
  • Oversee communication and content strategy for the annual USTA Coaching Summit, including keynote themes, agenda storytelling, promotional campaigns, and post-event engagement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary leadership partner connecting USTA Coaching with shared services, ensuring streamlined workflows, clear communication, and strong collaboration across teams.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Member Acquisition & Retention to align engagement strategies with membership goals, lifecycle communications, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure messaging consistency across internal departments and external partners.

Project & Workflow Management

  • Oversee timelines, creative briefs, campaign calendars, and communication schedules for all engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure the timely production and delivery of high-quality content and materials.
  • Maintain editorial standards and best practices for tone, accuracy, brand alignment, and accessibility. 

Member Feedback and Relationship Building

  • Work closely with the Sr. Manager, Coach Experience, to understand feedback collected regularly through surveys, focus groups, and informal conversations to gauge member satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Sport Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in marketing, engagement, or communications roles, ideally within sport, membership organizations, coaching/education, or nonprofits.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead integrated marketing and content strategies across multiple channels.
  • Experience collaborating with creative, social media, PR, and communications teams.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to translate organizational goals into compelling campaigns and engagement strategies.
  • Experience working in a shared-service or matrixed organizational environment.
  • Familiarity with coaching, sport development, or member-based communities.
  • Background in event content strategy or program promotion.
  • Data-driven approach with experience using analytics tools to inform decisions.
  • Excellent PC skills in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Google required. Experience with Monday.com or other project management platforms is a plus.
  • This position is designated as "hybrid/flex" and may allow for both remote and on-site work. Any such position must meet the current USTA hybrid/flex requirements as updated from time to time. Please consult HR for the most current policy.
  • Position is considered non-exempt.

The expected range for the annual base salary for this position is $130,000- 145,000. This role is eligible for an Incentive Compensation Plan (ICP) bonus up to 10%. This range does not include any additional pay or benefits for which a person may qualify. The actual base salary offered is determined by several variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, the years of relevant experience, their unique skills, and the location from which they will be performing the job.
