Who We're Looking For
Toyota’s Paint Production Engineering team is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with materials, processes, and equipment to bring innovative paint technologies and manufacturing solutions to life while supporting Toyota’s commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and cost.

What You'll Be Doing
You’ll play a key role in developing and implementing advanced paint materials, technologies, and processes by leading end-to-end spray trials in a production-like environment. Success in this role means delivering reliable, decision-grade results while collaborating across teams to continuously improve material performance, safety, and operational efficiency.

  • Lead hands-on execution of full vehicle paint spray trials, including material preparation, body setup, application, and quality confirmation to ensure accurate and reliable results

  • Develop and manage detailed trial plans, ensuring proper sequencing, timing, and milestone alignment to deliver high-quality outcomes

  • Drive equipment readiness by coordinating preventive maintenance activities and partnering with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations

  • Perform and analyze technical measurements such as film build, viscosity, and non-volatile content to generate data-driven insights that support decision-making

  • Compile and present trial data packages and reports that meet decision-grade standards for cross-functional stakeholders

  • Champion safety by enforcing best practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, daily inspections, and 5S standards to maintain a safe work environment

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot paint application issues, improve material performance, and enhance process consistency

  • Support robot program verification and basic troubleshooting to ensure accurate execution and continuous process improvement

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree that provides a strong foundation in engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience

  • 1+ years of experience where you’ve worked in automotive paint operations, paint laboratories, or related environments

  • Experience where you’ve supported or executed paint spray trials or worked within paint booth environments

  • Familiarity with paint systems, including waterborne and solvent-borne coatings, and testing methods such as film build, viscosity, and non-volatile measurements

  • Experience with basic robotics execution or equipment troubleshooting, with the ability to learn and adapt in a hands-on environment

  • Strong communication and coordination skills that enable you to work effectively across teams and deliver high-quality project outcomes

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools to support reporting, data analysis, and collaboration

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% to support trial execution, vendor visits, and collaboration with manufacturing locations

  • Willingness to support overtime (approximately 15–20%), including occasional weekends or extended hours, to meet project and operational needs

Added Bonus If You Have

  • Advanced degree that deepens your expertise in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials engineering, or materials science

  • Experience with automotive paint production engineering or exposure to paint manufacturing environments

  • Knowledge of color and appearance evaluation techniques that enhance paint quality and consistency

  • Experience with paint application evaluation, lab-based testing, or materials analysis that drives process improvements

  • Hands-on experience with industrial robots such as Kawasaki, Yaskawa, or Fanuc to support automation and process optimization

  • Forklift license or willingness to obtain one to support operational flexibility

What We’ll Bring
During your interview process, our team will provide you with all the details of our industry-leading benefits and career development opportunities. A few highlights include:

  • A work environment built on teamwork, flexibility, and respect

  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career, as well as tuition reimbursement
