Melvin Elementary School is a school-wide Title I campus operating on a traditional calendar and serving approximately 370 students in grades PreK–5. Located in the northwest San Fernando Valley at 7700 Melvin Avenue, Reseda, CA 91335, Melvin Elementary and its Humanities and Leadership Magnet are dedicated to providing a rigorous academic program that meets the diverse needs of all learners. Melvin Elementary serves students from both the immediate neighborhood and surrounding communities. Our student population is approximately 80% Latino, 8% Pacific Islander/Filipino/Asian, 3% White, and 2% Black. Additionally, 24% of our students are English learners, 21% are students with disabilities, and approximately 90% come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: We are seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Principal who demonstrates visionary instructional leadership and a deep commitment to advancing excellence in teaching and learning. As an instructional leader, the ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of research-based instructional practices and the ability to support, coach, and inspire teachers in the effective implementation of these practices. They should be skilled in analyzing and utilizing student achievement data to identify areas of need, inform decision-making, and develop targeted strategies and interventions that promote improved student outcomes. A comprehensive understanding of the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework is essential, along with the ability to provide meaningful, constructive feedback that strengthens instructional practice and fosters professional growth among staff. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate a collaborative leadership style that builds partnerships and cultivates a culture of continuous improvement, shared accountability, and collective efficacy. The candidate should also demonstrate professionalism, strong communication and a commitment to building partnerships. They should possess exceptional organizational and strategic planning abilities, the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities, and approach challenges with creativity, innovation, and solution-oriented thinking. SALARY: SALARY: 40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit. For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment). Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING): Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: (All minimum requirements must be met on or before the filing deadline.
