Education Qualifications:
- in the subject area supervised
Experience Qualifications:
- Three successful years of teaching in the field to be supervised

- Demonstrated leadership/instructional supervision skills
- Demonstrated skills in organization and planning
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide professional leadership within the assigned department to support the teaching and learning process.
- Supervise day-to-day operations of department.
- Help supervise substitute personnel for teachers who are absent.
- Help supervise student teachers assigned to teachers in their department.
- Encourage recommendations for all special programs.
- Assist with interview of prospective teachers.
- Assist in assessment of teachers.
- Conduct instructional evaluations with teachers as assigned by the principal.
- Supervise, in conjunction with local school administrators, any plans for improvement developed for teachers.
- Conduct a post-conference with each teacher that he or she evaluates, at least once each year, at which time a completed assessment instrument will be completed.
- Supervise, in conjunction with local school administrators, plans for improvement should teachers receive ratings of N and/or U on any category of the Teacher Evaluation Instrument.
- Assist in and prepare suggested schedule for department teaching assignments by semesters.
- Work with counselors in scheduling new students.
- Coordinate individual student advisement within department.
- Coordinate student pre-registration and registration including dissemination of information to all students.
- Meet with staff on a regular basis.
- Share research and program development with staff.
- Attend department chairperson meetings held by district curriculum director.
- Implement and maintain programs in department.
- Assist teachers with instructional activities.
- Implement new programs and inform other professionals and the community about these programs.
- Establish student performance goals based on input from teachers and students.
- Model effective instruction and guide teachers to improve instructional effectiveness.
- Plan and conduct staff development where appropriate.
- Report back to county curriculum director on effectiveness and usefulness of county staff development sessions.
- Send attendance records of systemwide staff development activities to county curriculum director.
- Meet on a regular basis with local administrators.
- Meet on a regular basis with district curriculum director.
- Plan for and participate in open meetings, Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meetings, and freshman orientation meetings with middle school teachers, students, and parents.
- Coordinate the development of end of semester exams.
- Ensure that the appropriate Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) are taught.
- Oversee instructional materials and equipment.
- Participate in local school budget planning and review.
- Prepare list of core materials needed for coming year.
- Prepare orders for instructional material, receive orders, verify, follow up on errors, non-delivery, etc.
- Assist media staff in planning for book, audio visual software, and hardware orders.
- Assist in the recovery of lost and damaged textbooks each semester.
- Prepare orders for equipment and store equipment in a secure location.
- Provide and maintain a resource center in the department for equipment and materials unique to a particular department where space is available.
- Assist with inventory of instructional materials, books, and equipment.
- Assume responsibility for departmental correspondence.
- Report and coordinate maintenance on equipment.
- Assist with general administrative duties.
- Assist principal with public relations efforts.
- Meet with appropriate administrators as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
