JOB TITLE: Principal of Early College Academy 

DEPARTMENT: Secondary Education

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Secondary Instruction 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUPERVISES: All Teaching and Learning practices associated with the Early College High School teachers and counselors

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Fulltime, 12-month contract

Education: MA/MS degree in education-related discipline; valid Oklahoma secondary teaching and principal credential

 

Experience: Previous secondary administration experience required

 

Skills: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education; strong knowledge and understanding of curriculum design and instructional best practices; expertise in Oklahoma State Department of Education regulations related to secondary education

 

SUMMARY: The Principal of Early College High School is responsible for coordinating, developing and maintaining dual credit, dual enrollment, and early college high school programs. Responsible for providing for the overall well-being of the students. This position works closely with all secondary counselors to build enrollment and create pathways to enrollment in Early College High School. Direct and manage instructional program and supervise operations and personnel for Early College High School. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service and oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and operation of all program activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

 

 

  1. Works with higher education partners to negotiate a memorandum of understanding that establishes the required curriculum plan and simplified class enrollment as well as covers all ongoing financial obligations for district.
  2. Works in organizing and fostering a productive, safe environment that sets high expectations to best meet the needs of all students, staff, and parents.
  3. Establishes and implements clear, vigilant and consistent expectations for behavior and discipline and insures student safety and welfare.
  4. Work with program staff to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  5. Supervises and maintains an articulated curriculum plan with the school higher education partner to guarantee the availability of a high school diploma along with 60 college credit hours are available to all ECHS student within a 4 year graduation plan.
  6. Establishes fair admission practices that target an appropriate student body based upon ECHS philosophy ensuring recruitment materials.
  7. Promote a college going culture that:
    • Promotes behavioral expectations and persistence through high school
    • Promotes skills and awareness to succeed in college
  8. Works with high school leadership team to create the Early College High School Master Schedule that supports instructional practices and provides equity for all programming and departments.
  9. Works with district leadership, outside educational authorities and regulatory bodies on collegiate and secondary issues.
  10. Formulates, recommends and implements professional development activities for teachers, which address curriculum needs at ECHS.
  11. Coordinates with building leadership to develop and continually review comprehensive concurrent enrollment plan to recruit students for Early College High School, Edge program and 2+2 Initiative.
  12. Work with high school leadership to increase post-secondary and/or advanced coursework opportunities for students i.e.: AP, Concurrent, Career Exploration, and Job-Out.
  13. Stays current on curriculum and instruction trends and research relating to issues of public education and early college initiatives.
  14. Assists in the development of school-wide reports to support district needs, such as the plan for educational development and improvement.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises, oversees and manages all Early College High School teaching and learning programs. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions n mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS/EXPECTATIONS: Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; insures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.
