POSITION TITLE: Occupational Therapist

FTE: 1.0

POSITION LOCATION: Middle Schools: Forsythe (0.5), Scarlett (0.2) and Tappan (0.3) 

SALARY: AAEA Teacher Salary Schedule

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Building Administrator 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Valid Michigan Occupational Therapy certificate.
  • Experience in providing occupational therapy services in a public school setting.
  • Experience working with students with autism and physical health impairments.
  • Experience with assistive technology process and intervention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct services in the classroom and pull-out.
  • Provide evaluative services as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide training for teachers, teacher assistants, and other staff members.
  • Provide services to several school sites.
  • Data collection and progress monitoring.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by Administrator.
  • This is a full-time position, requiring regular reliable and predictable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY 

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one to one bases as well as in groups.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally sit, walk or stand. The employee will occasionally reach forward or above the head more than the average person. Ability to visit various buildings in the district. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and push up to 90 pounds such as students and students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
