Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Piping Designer to support mine tailings and mine facilities projects as part of the Mining Division in Denver, CO. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in plant design, with expertise in both 2D and 3D environments, and demonstrate advanced proficiency with Plant 3D or equivalent software. This role requires the ability to independently execute and oversee complex design assignments, provide technical guidance, and ensure compliance with project and industry standards and is expected to provide the following responsibilities:
Job Summary/ Responsibilities:
- Advanced proficiency in Plant 3D or equivalent for the development of piping and equipment models, isometrics, and detailed engineering drawings such as but not limited to, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), process and flow diagrams (PFD), piping isometrics, plot plans, general arrangements, and detailed plans and sections.
- Expertise in creating and maintaining the overall catalog spec editor.
- Responsible for setting up, maintaining, and optimizing Plant 3D project environments in accordance with company and client standards.
- Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring compliance with industry codes and project standards.
- Strong understanding of piping design requirements, project specifications, and the use of vendor documents.
- Ability to independently execute complex design assignments with minimal supervision, including the ability to review and resolve discrepancies in supplier documents and ensure compliance with codes and standards and project standards.
- Proficient in planning, scheduling, and monitoring design tasks to meet project budgets and timelines, cost estimating methods, and project change control processes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and review work completed by other design and drafting personnel.
- Ability to work with engineers to create technical drawings from sketches and concepts using Plant 3D and other CAD tools.
- Serves as technical expert in their domain, recognized as the 'go-to' expert internally and externally.
- Provides guiding direction and ultimate oversight of 3D piping design engagements.
- Leads the technology strategy for individual’s area of expertise.
- Ability to innovate and implement improvements in design methodologies and CAD workflows.
- Broad knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines and business areas.
- Experience leading or assisting with manpower planning, cost forecasting, and business development initiatives.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams of drafters and designers, providing training, and ensuring quality control.
- Ensure the required deliverables from the technical team meet project requirements on time and within budget.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment by working during normal business operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Strong Microsoft skills in Windows, Office 365, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Plant 3D or equivalent.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized CAD certifications (e.g., CAD 2D Basic, CAD 3D Advanced, CAD Custom).
