Job Description
As a Technical Superintendent - Bulk at BSM, you will provide end-to-end technical and operational oversight for assigned bulk carriers, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-efficient ship management. You will act as the principal technical interface between ship and shore, supporting vessel performance, regulatory compliance, drydocking and repair planning, and continuous improvement initiatives in line with company and client objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver contractual ship management services in accordance with customer agreements, ensuring vessels meet required technical, operational and safety standards.
Act as the primary technical contact for Masters and Chief Engineers, providing guidance on planned maintenance, non-routine repairs, critical equipment failures and emergency response.
Develop, implement and monitor planned maintenance systems, repair scopes and drydocking programmes, ensuring timely execution within approved budgets.
Monitor machinery and equipment performance, fuel and energy efficiency, and maintenance execution to improve reliability and reduce operating cost.
Prepare, control and report on technical and OPEX budgets for assigned vessels; propose cost optimisation measures while safeguarding safety and compliance.
Ensure vessels maintain valid certification and comply with Class, Flag State, Port State and other applicable maritime legislation and industry standards.
Plan, conduct and follow up on vessel visits, inspections, audits, surveys and vettings; prepare required documentation and corrective action plans.
Coordinate with yards, suppliers and contractors for drydocking, repairs and upgrades; evaluate quotations and supervise technical execution.
Coach, mentor and support shipboard personnel; contribute to recruitment, appraisals and career development of technical staff.
Maintain close communication with clients and internal stakeholders on technical, operational and budgetary matters and provide timely status reports.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Marine or Naval Architecture, or equivalent vocational qualification; a valid Chief Engineer’s Certificate is desirable.
Minimum of 1 years’ sea service as a chief engineer officer or at least 1 years’ shore-based experience as a technical superintendent within ship management or an owning company, preferably with bulk carrier experience.
Experience with drydocking management, engine and cargo handling plant maintenance, and familiarity with Class and Flag State survey processes.
