Respiratory Therapy - Adjunct Faculty

Job Description

Major Responsibilities: It is the major responsibility of a faculty member at Florida National University to provide quality instruction and career advisement to all students. The faculty also is responsible for maintaining grades and for the development of course objectives, outline, syllabi, and course competencies. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.
  2. Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities.
  3. University Engagement: Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, university events, committees, self-studies, and University Commencement Ceremonies.
  4. Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor.
  5. Compliance Adherence: Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  6. Assigned Duties: Undertake other assigned duties as required.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides appropriate level of instruction: Didactic or Clinical.
  2. Provides quality instruction for the students.
  3. Ensures the assessment of students learning outcomes per course.
  4. Reports to the Registrar's office all grades and submits reports on a timely fashion.
  5. Attends all faculty meetings, professional development functions and University committees to which they have been assigned.
  6. Ensures that all electronic library resources are used for college work only.
  7. Maintains the posted hours for the purpose of student advisement and tutoring.
  8. Performs those duties designated by the Respiratory Department's Program Director, PD.
  9. Works with the librarians in the establishment and weeding of the library program and course collection development.
  10. Oversee compliance with licensing and accrediting organizations.
  11. Continuously oversee actions for improvements at campus level sited in the Faculty's Planning, Assessment, and Implementation Form.
  12. Participates in the self-studies and committees conducted by the University.
  13. Support and participate in University Commencement Ceremonies as permitted by individual full-time position.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned including Inter-Rater Reliability trials (Clinical Faculty only).
  15. Follows Director of Clinical Education, DCE guidelines while performing clinical instruction in all matters related to the students' education.
  1. Honors all facility mandated policies applicable to clinical professors while in the facility, as long as they do not pose a conflict with FNU policies and notify the DCE if there are existing discrepancies between policies from both institutions (clinical facility and FNU).
  2. Reports student and facility issues that could affect the program to the DCE and PD via email within 24 hours of occurrence.

 

In addition, instructional faculty must: (CoARC Standard 2.13).

  • Clinical instructor must be a graduate from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, CoARC Accredited program, with at least an Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist, RRT, and provide proof of the National Board for Respiratory Care, NBRC, national credential certificate.
  • Have at least two years' experience in adult critical care and be ACLS certified.
  • If the instructor will train students in neonatal intensive care the instructor must also have at least two years' experience in that area as well as the NRP certification.
  • Clinical experience in Pulmonary Function Testing, PFT, and Sleep Studies is a welcome addition.
  • To teach didactic courses the instructor must be working on or have earned a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Respiratory Care in any of its different titles and or names.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in respiratory therapy, Respiratory Care, or Health Sciences.
  • Current, unrestricted Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state where practicing
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical respiratory therapy practice experience
  • Advanced NBRC specialty certifications (NPS, ACCS, RPFT, or SDS)
  • Experience as a clinical preceptor or clinical instructor
  • Knowledge of clinical education best practices and competency-based assessment
  • Experience with clinical affiliation management and site development
  • Strong relationships within the local healthcare community
