Job Description

Job Summary:

This position functions under the indirect supervision of the radiology supervisor. The transport team is responsible for the safe and timely transport of patients to and from the radiology department. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, and communication skills to serve our patients and guests.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or completion of GED preferred.

Requirements: Must possess good communication skills.

Duties and responsibilities:


The transport team duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for verifying the patients’ identity prior to transporting to the radiology department.
  • The safe and timely transport of patients to and from the department.
  •  Operating and proper handling of O2 tanks and in-room O2.
  • Observation of patient IV site, fluid levels, etc. and communicating any needs to patients nurse prior to transport
  •  Checking for indwelling catheter and handling accordingly
  • Assist with the transfer of patients while in the radiology department.
  • Assist night shift techs as needed.
  • Cleanliness and safety of equipment and transport room. Reports any unsafe equipment or conditions.
  •  Practicing and encouraging teamwork within the department, the hospital, providers and all SCRMC facilities.
  •  Displaying accountability for tasks assigned to them.
  • Responsible for assisting and communicating with patients, guests, and nurses as needed.
  •  Participating in educational opportunities in use of new equipment and department policy and procedures.
  •  Adhering to department and SCRMC policies and procedures and SCRMC Performance Standards.
  •  Keeping area clean, neat, safe and stocked with needed supplies.
  •  Adhering to safety, radiation and infection control policies.
  •  Participating in Quality Improvement.
  • Training of new employees


Working conditions:


The transport staff must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.


Schedules:


Dependent on the position available for hire, possible schedules may include, but are not limited to:


· Full time positions will cover 8-hour shifts (630-1500, 7-1530 or 830-1700) or evening/night shift (1730-0200).

· Full time transporters must be available for weekend shifts.

· Full time transporters must also be available to work holidays.

· PRN: Hours will vary dependent on need, to include days, evenings/nights, weekdays, weekends and holidays
