Job Description

Salary Range: $17.60 - $22.00

 

The Pharmacy Distribution Student is a valued member of the hospital pharmacy team and supports safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution throughout the organization. Working under the supervision of regulated pharmacy professionals, the student will gain hands‑on experience in hospital pharmacy operations, medication distribution and inventory management, while developing professional skills in a patient‑centred healthcare environment.

This role will support experiential learning for students enrolled in an Accredited Pharmacy Technician program.

 

The Pharmacy Distribution student will be exposed to various aspects of drug distribution and clinical pharmacy services offered at CMH. The student will receive in-depth training in the process of replenishing automated point of use cabinet filling, inventory management, prepackaging, extemporaneous compounding.

 

The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling.

  • Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
  • There is no guarantee of hours and posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change

Specific Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician Student / Intern responsibilities may include:

  • Support medication distribution processes, including cart fills, automated dispensing cabinets, Carousel and unit‑dose packaging systems
  • Assist with packaging and labelling of medications, including oral solids and liquids
  • Receive, stock, and organize medications and supplies within the pharmacy
  • Assist with inventory management, including expiry date checks and restocking
  • Support documentation and record‑keeping activities in the pharmacy information system
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacy team members and other healthcare professionals
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality, privacy legislation, and hospital policies
  • Participate in orientation, training, and learning opportunities as assigned

Qualifications of Pharmacy Student/ Intern Candidate:

  • Completed or currently enrolled in an Accredited Pharmacy Technician program (Diploma or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated interest in hospital pharmacy practice or previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting is preferred (familiarity with automated dispensing cabinets or bar‑code medication systems)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Strong organizational, time management and priority setting abilities
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and perform pharmacy calculations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working in community or hospital pharmacy practice preferred
  • Regular attendance is mandatory
