Position Summary: The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations under the direction of the Radiologist, Technical Director, and Lead/Chief Technologist. This position is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and departmental standards.
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Clinical experience in a hospital or outpatient imaging setting preferred.
Certifications & Licensure
- Current ARDMS registration required.
- Must be registered with ARDMS in at least one of the following specialties to meet ACR accreditation requirements:
- Abdomen (AB)
- OB/GYN
- Pediatric Sonography (PS)
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- Credentials must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
- Current BLS certification.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized diagnostic ultrasound examinations in accordance with physician orders and ACR protocols.
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images and ensure accurate documentation.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of ultrasound physics, instrumentation, anatomy, pathology, terminology, and scanning techniques.
- Communicate effectively with radiologists regarding exam findings and patient concerns.
- Complete accurate patient documentation and required paperwork.
- Provide clear instructions and compassionate care to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Follow ACR guidelines and departmental protocols for all ultrasound examinations.
- Participate in Quality Assurance activities as assigned.
- Complete or direct completion of occurrence reports within 24 hours of any identified event, incident, or risk.
- Support efficient workflow and respond positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
- Participate in cross-training initiatives to enhance departmental flexibility and professional growth.
- Assist with the clinical education and supervision of ultrasound students, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.
