Description:
The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost student motivations to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities. The activity based Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC), which is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, integrates reading, conflict resolution, and social action, and is designed to promote social, cultural, and historical awareness.
The District 622 internship experience is intended to offer students the opportunity to learn and lead through community engagement that focuses on expanding leadership skills. Interns will contribute to creating a culturally affirming and engaging learning environment for scholars.
On the job training includes supporting various facets of the program operations.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and responsibility
- Assist in the implementation of the Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC) and daily program activities
- Help facilitate small groups
- Participate in all required trainings and ongoing professional learning opportunities
- Support program operations, including setup and clean up for breakfast, lunch, and activities
- Uphold program expectations to ensure all components are implemented with fidelity
Required Qualifications:
- Current high school student interested in the field of education, social work, youth development, or related areas
- Demonstrated commitment to working with children and supporting their academic and social development
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse, intergenerational team
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional demeanor
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance
- Ability to follow direction while also showing initiative
