Special Education Instructional Teacher
Job Description
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Coordinator of Special Service, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum with necessary modifications and accommodations; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Education, Experience, and Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education required; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid Professional Educator Licensure from the Illinois State Board of Education.
- LBSI endorsement.
- Two years of successful special education teaching experience highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
- Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day.
- Prolonged periods sitting and working on computer to complete necessary paperwork.
Terms of Employment:
- 180 day/10 month position.
- Evaluation conducted in accordance with the evaluation plan, the Illinois School Code and applicable regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Salary and increase set by Professional Negotiation Contract.
Working Conditions:
- In person and on site in a school/classroom environment.
- Close contact with school age children.
