Job Description

Job Requirements

The Material Handler supports production and warehouse operations by managing the movement, storage, and documentation of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished goods. This role ensures safe, accurate handling of resin and packaging materials, maintains inventory, and upholds cleanliness and safety standards throughout the facility.


Essential Functions

Material Movement & Inventory

Stretch wrap and transport finished goods from the production line to the warehouse staging area

Transport resin boxes to production lines and return partial boxes to the warehouse.

Weigh partial boxes and return them to raw material staging area.

Move necessary packaging materials (pallets, cores, cradle packs, slip sheets, etc.) to production lines.

Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.

Verify completed orders for shipping, ensuring products are safely packaged, documented, and staged for shipment.

Segregate and return defective pallets to the pallet supplier pickup area.

Review production schedule and proactively set up next shift with required raw materials.

Complete railcar inventory for the following day shift.

Resin Handling & Equipment Operation

Understand and interpret all resin codes and silo numbering systems.

Retrieve, read, and complete pumping order documents and pump resins into identified silos per instructions.

Operate and control resin pumps for unloading railcars using control panel settings.

Adjust air inlet settings on resin transfer hoses to maximize pumping rates.

Ensure proper pump operation and verify resin is sent to the correct silo before starting the pump.

Comply with resin transfer storage requirements, including capping or plugging unused resin lines and hoses.

Ensure resin is pumped whenever silo space is available.

Empty resin from railcars and prepare them for release, securing suction tube caps.

Open and close the gate to the rail spur, manage safety flags for railcar switches.


Facility Cleanliness & Safety

Clean filters on resin pumps after shutdown and lockout; dispose of spilled pellets or powders properly.

Inspect and clean angel hair traps at the bottom of silos each shift.

Clean up spills from silos and store cleaned resin in labeled boxes.

Periodically climb to the tops of silos to clean filters of angel hair, disposing of waste appropriately.

Periodically climb onto railcars to gather samples using proper fall protection and confirm compartments are empty.

Help clean up on the production floor when directed,

Maintain cleanliness in packaging, storage, and resin staging areas.


Teamwork & Communication

Conduct and/or participate in shift hand-off meetings with oncoming team members (e.g, Resin Material Handler or Production Utility).

Communicate with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks and manage workflow.



Work Experience

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Previous experience in material handling, warehouse, or production environment is a plus.

· Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.

· Proficiency in reading and interpreting inventory, production, and pump order documents.

· Physical stamina to lift heavy items, climb silos and railcars, and perform manual tasks.

· Attention to detail in documentation, verification, and safety compliance.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills

· Commitment to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requires use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.

Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 Ibs or more), climbing, and manual handling of materials.

May require overtime, shift work, and weekend or holiday availability.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Full-time, hourly (non-exempt). This position follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule (8:00 AM-8:00 PM or 8:00 PM-8:00 AM) on a seven-day cycle, alternating between 36- and 48-hour work weeks. Occasional overtime and/or weekend work may be required.
