Job Summary
This position facilitates and coordinates line maintenance field activities originating from the Line Support organization such as contract inspections, specialized repairs, and aerial patrols. Provides support to internal partners and customers, Transmission Maintenance Centers, Line Design, Construction, Safety and Training. It also serves as a Subject Matter Expert for line maintenance work practices, materials, and inspection and assessment techniques. Supports emergency response situations such as damage assessments and expertise for repairs and material needs. This position also represents transmission line maintenance interests on Southern Company committees as well as industry committees and participates in research and development of work practices and materials.
Location: Assigned location will be Forest Park. Please note relocation is not required for this location due to statewide responsibilities, but candidate must be willing to travel 75% of the time as required.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)
- Ten years of experience in transmission line maintenance, construction, and operation.
- Extensive knowledge of line work practices and bulletins.
- Knowledge of GPC/SoCo Transmission line specifications.
- Experience as Transmission Line Foreman, Crew Leader, Inspector, Line Specialist, Safety and Health or Training Specialist is preferred.
- Experience with tools including STOMP, TLIS, TLMS, ArcMap, Carry Map and/or Maximo is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is a plus.
- Ability to communicate technical information to all levels of the organization is a must.
- State-wide travel required as well as occasional travel out of state.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate ground-line inspections and repairs in the assigned geographical area and provide support as needed to other areas across the state.
- Lead Final Line Inspections Design, Construction, TMC and Forestry representatives
- Utilization of Specialty tools such as x-ray machine and UAV to perform inspections on new construction projects and repairs
- Perform aerial patrols of key facilities in assigned areas
- Provide transmission line maintenance expertise and support to TMCs and other groups
- Assist with resolving issues with transmission line materials and work practices.
- Represent GPC transmission line maintenance on SCT and industry committees.
- Assist with research and development projects relating to new materials, technologies, and work practices
