JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: ML Coach
FLSA Status: Exempt
Days of Work: 220 Days
GENERAL SUMMARY
The ML Coach provides district-wide leadership, support, and instructional coaching for Multilingual Learner (ML) programs and services across all schools within Jasper County School District. The ML Coach works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, instructional staff, students, and families to support the academic achievement and language development of multilingual learners. The position assists with instructional planning, compliance, professional development, program implementation, and monitoring of services for ML students. Reports to the Director of GT/ML or designee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
Instructional Support & Coaching
Provide instructional coaching and support to teachers serving multilingual learners across the district.
Assist teachers with implementing effective instructional strategies and accommodations for multilingual learners.
Support the development and implementation of language acquisition strategies aligned with district and state expectations.
Model instructional best practices and provide classroom-based support when needed.
Assist with the interpretation and use of student performance data to support instructional planning and interventions.
Program Compliance & Coordination
Support compliance with federal, state, and district requirements related to multilingual learner programs and services.
Assist with monitoring student progress, language proficiency, and academic performance.
Collaborate with school staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and services are provided to ML students.
Support district processes related to ML identification, placement, testing, and documentation.
Assist with maintaining accurate records and program documentation.
Professional Development & Collaboration
Provide and facilitate professional development related to multilingual learner instruction, language acquisition, and cultural responsiveness.
Collaborate with administrators, instructional coaches, teachers, counselors, and support staff to support student success.
Communicate effectively with families, staff, and community stakeholders regarding ML services and supports.
Assist schools in creating inclusive learning environments that support multilingual learners.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Remain current on instructional strategies, ML program requirements, and educational best practices.
Participate in district meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of GT/ML or district administration.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field required.
Valid South Carolina teaching certification required.
Certification or endorsement related to ESOL/ML instruction preferred.
Experience working with multilingual learners preferred.
Instructional coaching or leadership experience preferred.
Preferred:
Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience providing professional development and instructional coaching preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
Knowledge of language acquisition and culturally responsive instructional practices.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws related to multilingual learner programs.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyze student data and support instructional planning.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders.
Ability to travel between schools and district sites as needed.
Working Conditions:
District-wide position requiring travel between school sites and district locations.
School-based and office environments with movement between classrooms, offices, and meeting spaces.
Minimal exposure to environmental hazards.
