JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title: Coordinator of Academic Interventions

FLSA Status: Exempt

Days of Work: 220

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, coordinates with the instructional staff to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the afterschool programs at each site in the District. Coordinates District-wide programs for academic intervention. Works with the instructional staff to ensure that students are supported and provided the appropriate assistance to be successful learners. Reviews test data, report cards and information provided by teachers and or parents to address the needs of students who are not making the expected progress. Reports to the Director of Federal Programs.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

Collaborates and assists with the administration of the academic programs for the District.

Collaborates and assists with the administration of academic intervention programs in the District.

Disseminates information to all stakeholders concerning both the afterschool programs and academic recovery programs via informational sessions, website, printed materials etc.

Attends all staff meetings pertaining to afterschool programs as well as the academic progress of the students.

Collaborates with instructional staff to review the goals of the afterschool program, establishing dates and benchmarks for evaluation purposes.

Ensures that the academic programs are meeting the needs of the students who are in attendance.

Meets with the team of staff members who are working with the afterschool program on a regular basis as a part of monitoring the program and to gather useful feedback.

Hosts parent informational meetings concerning afterschool programs and the availability of academic recovery assistance.

Provides supervision and support for the afterschool program and for academic recovery. Ensures that materials, technology, programs and supplies are ordered for the program,

Ensures that activities and lessons are meeting the needs of the students.

Responsible for the completion of all required paperwork and reports. Provides appropriate correspondence to teachers, administrators, parents and students.

Ensures that record keeping is in compliance with District, State and Federal regulations and guidelines.

Plans the orientation for afterschool programs and academic recovery programs.

Assist with the recruitment, screening and selection of afterschool staff.

Works with teachers and the instructional staff in the preparation of curriculum and materials.

Assists with the selection of textbooks, technology and materials for the recovery program and afterschool program.

Creates the schedule, maintains attendance records and student progress reports for afterschool programs and academic recovery.

Engages in ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of the afterschool program and academic recovery for students. Utilizes the data to ensure the goals of the program are being met and that students are making the expected progress academically. 

Works with the budget as provided and makes recommendations for future needs.

Keeps informed of current trends and practices related to teaching and learning. Attends professional development sessions and trainings.

Develops and implements intervention plans to address student attendance, behavior and academic progress.

Works closely and cooperatively with other administrators at the district and school levels as well as with each school's faculty and staff toward the goal of student success.

Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Federal Programs or his/her designee.

 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Master's Degree in Education or Education Administration or a related discipline with a minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience working with State/Federal programs. Must possess a valid South Carolina Teacher's Certificate with the appropriate endorsement.

 

Knowledge:

 Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the District as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Coordinator of Academic Interventions; is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; has extensive knowledge of educational programming for students, including curriculum development, special program development, instructional principles and practices, and the use of technology in instructional operations; has extensive knowledge of the principles, trends and methods of teaching; has knowledge of and skill in budget preparation, professional development, and other administrative functions of the position; Knows how to plan, organize and supervise a support staff; has extensive knowledge concerning teaching, learning and improving student academic performance.

 

Skills/Effort:

Has the ability to offer instruction and guidance to staff regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations; able to conduct program evaluations and make recommendations based on results; has the ability to offer training and assistance to staff as required; has the ability to use independent judgment and discretion in supervising various programs including the handling of emergency situations, determining procedures, setting priorities, setting schedules, maintaining standards, planning for future District needs and resolving problems; has good organizational, technical and human relations skills; is able to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise and clear manner; Knows how to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.

 

Working Conditions:

 Office/school environment with little exposure to environmental conditions; physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to ten pounds; routine local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.
