Position Summary
The Senior Product Design Engineer is responsible for assistance in the design and development of new products, sustaining existing products, including reviewing product designs, creating solid models, and detailing prints. This person will work under minimal supervision and interface with internal departments both local and corporate, customers, vendors, and 3rd party partners, all of which are essential to achieving the organization’s goal of on-time in-full production delivery and high-quality products. The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet’s principles of continuous improvement, customer driven innovation and a win first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics.
Principle Responsibilities
- Uses Siemens NX (Unigraphics) to create designs and drawings.
- Design and develop forge and machine dies/tooling/fixtures required to manufacture customer/specified products.
- Calculate die cavity volumes for thermal expansion, finish and dimensional values.
- Develops B.O.M.s and assembly method.
- Maintains design controls from customer change requests through verification/validation of products.
- Initiates, processes, and reviews Engineering Change Notices.
- Develops drafting/design standards to increase efficiency.
- Assists with the design of gages, fixtures, and tooling.
- Implements cost reduction by working closely with manufacturing to reduce scrap and waste.
- Performs analysis verification of design, which may include calculation.
- Identifies continuous improvement of existing products.
- Provides manufacturing liaison to shop operations involving designed dies/tooling/fixtures.
- Resolves manufacturing issues or assist in overcoming challenges.
- Follows established company/department rules and regulations and maintain quality standards.
- Good working knowledge of GD&T.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by engineering manager.
Qualification Requirements
Credentials/Experience:
- Minimum of bachelor's degree in mechanical, Biomedical or Design Engineering.
- 5 years’ experience in drafting and tool design.
- Basic understanding of machining and secondary process experience (welding, polishing, electropolish, passivation, assembly)
- Experience utilizing computer aided design (CAD) to develop or update a product
Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:
- Solidworks Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in 3D Modeling/Drafting, Siemens NX (Unigraphics)
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and concepts including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, MDR 2017/745, CAPA, NCR, supplier control, manufacturing control, design control
- Excellence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Relies heavily on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent data entry skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
- Good working knowledge of GD&T.
