The Accounts Payable Clerk will be responsible for the processing of all accounts payable functions and accurate record maintenance.

About Stronger Communities New York (SCNY)
Stronger Communities New York (SCNY) reflects the combined administrative partnership between The House of the Good Shepherd (HGS) and Together for Youth (TFY). SCNY is not a separate organization; it simply represents the shared administrative functions and coordinated efforts of both agencies as they support children and families across New York State. HGS is based in Utica, NY, and TFY operates in Canaan, NY. This position provides recruitment support across both agencies within the SCNY framework. The Account Payable Clerk may be based in either Hudson or Albany and will follow the policies, benefits, and compensation structure of Together for Youth, as outlined in the TFY employee handbook.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Record and properly account for all purchases made by agency personnel.
  • Process various payments to agency vendors and employees in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review invoices for accuracy, appropriate documentation and appropriate approvals prior to payment.
  • Maintain proper supporting documentation for all transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders including streamlining billing process, responding to employee questions and vendor inquiries.
  • Assist Accounts Payable Supervisor with monthly close process.
  • Assist in gathering required information for fiscal year audit.
  • Manage and reduce areas of risk where identified and report to supervisor when necessary.
  • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures as they pertain to authorization levels and procurement of goods and services.
  • Follow all internal control processes.
  • Other related assignments as delegated by Finance Leadership.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable and basic accounting functions.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, organizational, communication skills, including attention to detail, oral, and written communication skills, listening and training skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret changing legislation, technical procedures, and the ability to respond effectively to sensitive, confidential inquiries.
  • Ability to use various office technology to include the telephone, computer, calculator, etc.

  • Ability to travel and attend work related functions as needed.

Job Requirements 

  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field with one to three years experience preferably in a mid-size non-profit organization
  • Significant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to work in a culturally and economically diverse population.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
