Greenwich Public Schools seeks a full-time special education teacher for the K-5 Unique Learners Program.
Job Description
The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. In the Unique Learner stetting, the special education teahcer will provide targeted and specially designed instruction for students in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics using the Connecticut Alternative Assessment Standards (CTAA); the teacher will also design and implement instruction to address students' adaptive daily living skills and social-emotional needs. IEP goals will be evluated in an environment with data collection serving as a basis fo instruction. This setting necessitates the development and implementation of instructional and behavioral management stratregies for students with special needs.
Responsibilities
- Collect data and evaluations for individual students using a variety of assessment methods
- Participate as a member of the Planning and Placement Team (PPT)
- Develop and implement an annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) in developing the Present Levels of Educational Performance, appropriate goals, and objectives
- Employ various teaching strategies, methods, and principles of learning to assist students in achieving their IEP goals and behavior management needs
- Effectively manage the classroom and student behavior
- Collaborate and consult with educational professionals and community service providers
Qualifications
- Current CT Special Education Teacher certification, or certifiability, is required (e.g., #065)
- Experience is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of special education
