Job Summary
Performs a variety of clerical duties to insure communication and transfer of information between the Nutrition and Food Services Department and the multidisciplinary health care team in order to implement each patient nutrition care plan accurately and effectively. As needed may perform duties of the Dietary Worker.
Essential Functions
- 1. Obtains diet orders and pertinent patient information to provide accurate and appropriate nutrition care.
* Utilizes CIS/CBORD according to policies and procedure of MMC. - 2. Basic knowledge of nutritional science and its application to diet in the clinical setting.
* 100% accuracy in menu modification, - 3. Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations pertinent to Diet Office operations.
* Conformance to departmental standards of practice. - 4. Ability to operate hospital computer systems.
* Consistent generation of reports pertinent to Diet Office operations. - 5. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to communicate with patient units to obtain accurate diet order information as necessary.
* Interacts with co-workers in a manner that promotes mutual respect and recognition. - 6. Processes diet changes and maintains accurate diet orders in CBORD
* Adheres to departmental standards of practice. Documented evidence of conformance as reflected in accuracy of diet office. - 7. Modifies menus according to prescribed diet as necessary.
* Adheres to departmental standards of practice 100% conformance in accuracy and compliance with patient food preferences expected. - 8. Organizes menus according to sequence of each patient unit and provides menus for tray line in correct order. on time.
* Ability of tray line to start on time as reflected in patient/nursing/MD satisfaction with timeliness of meal service. - 9. Completes meal census tally.
* Complete. accurate in formation documented on a daily basis - 10. Notifies Dietitians and Diet Technicians of requests to be seen
* Consults documented and posted for review In appropriate situations contact with Dietitian/ Diet Technician made through paging in a timely manner .. - 11. Maintains adequate inventory of diet office supplies through restocking.
* Diet office is not short of supplies. - 12. Shows ability to set priorities. problem solve and be flexible in different situations according to customer needs.
* Completes assignments with established time frames. Asks questions and seeks clarification as necessary. Understands when to escalate problems as necessary. - 13. Delivers food and non-food products throughout the Medical Center.
* To assure that the different areas within the department and hospital are accurately stocked on timely bases. - 14. Prepares sandwiches, portions out canned fruits, desserts and salads. makes coffee, and whatever food or beverage item deemed necessary by the director or manager.
* To meet customer needs. - 15. Monitors and records food/refrigerator temperature.
* To assure foods are cooked and maintained in safe temperature. - 16. Wraps and dates all food products.
* To assure foods are utilized in safe and timely manner. - 17. Provides and maintains a safe environment through preventative and interventional measures.
* Adherence to medical center's infection control, safety, and Disaster policies and procedures. Tags and removes broken equipment immediately. Communicates information regarding broken equipment to charge person of unit. - 18. Maintains cleanliness of non- patient areas. (i.e. unit based supply rooms. refrigerators, freezers and rolling stock). Checks expiration dates on supplies.
* 100% compliance to quality control checks. - 19. Maintains required standards set forth by the NYS Department of Health by maintaining sanitary and safety standards in the preparation and storage of all foods and maintains a clean work area.
* Visual inspections by supervisors who refer to a checklist and maintains code as mandated by New York State Department of Health. - 20. Trains other employees in his/her area of responsibility.
* To assure competent coverage of this position when regular associate is not available. - 21. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with the Food and Nutrition Team.
* One hundred percent compliance to quality. Communicates observations of patient/customer status to professional. Assists other staff members on team within scope of practice. Interacts with co-workers in a manner that promotes team building. - 22. Is responsible and accountable for own actions.
* Adheres to medical center's Human Resource policies and procedures. - 23. Actively participates, practices and promotes Montefiore Excellence, AIDET and continuous quality improvement.
* Contributes to problem identification and problem-solving in work environment. participating in task force and groups as necessary. Supports the mission, vision. critical success factors and goals of Montefiore Medical Center and the standards of care. - 24. Other duties assigned.
* Reports on and off duty to designated team leaders or manager for the smooth running of the operation.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- English proficiency
- Ability to do basic computation
