
IT Software Engineer (EHS/LIMS interfaces, HL7, CorePoint engine)
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Architect, develop, implement and support/maintain interfaces that enable the exchange of patient and lab data between hospital systems (such as HIS and EHR) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Productivity expectations for a Corepoint Interface Engineer include:
- Development of 3-4 concurrent interface projects, 10-15 projects yearly.
- Complete an interface project in 90 days, or as quickly as possible given lab/client resources and competencies
- Handle a proportionate share of support tickets for Corepoint environment.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including clinical laboratory staff, hospital IT teams, and vendors to define requirements and technical specifications, and clearly set and maintain expectations, challenges, and proposed solutions.
- Implement industry-standard protocols and data formats, such as HL7, JSON or XML, to ensure interoperability between systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve interface-related issues, ensuring timely and accurate data flow between systems.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code for interface development and integration, without flaws, taking into account the specific needs and idiosyncrasies of each lab and hospital/medical practice
- Conduct testing and quality assurance to validate interfaces, ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and integrity.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring efficient and reliable interface operations.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare standards, regulations (HIPAA, etc.), and best practices for patient data security.
- Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and other ongoing development efforts as needed.
- Communicate project status and issues to the management and other stakeholders through meetings, emails and key documents.
- Interact and clearly communicate with clients, industry peers, software support teams, and ELE staff as required.
Basic Minimum Qualifications (BMQ):
- Deep experience designing, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining interfaces using the Corepoint Interface Engine, including 3-5 years’ experience minimum, more preferred, particularly in the healthcare/clinical laboratory domain,
- Ability to troubleshoot, debug, optimize and support Corepoint interfaces
- Familiarity with engine upgrades, version management and performance tuning
- Strong knowledge of HL7 messaging, ADT ORM ORU DFT, etc. and message segmentation data types and flows
- Experience with standards such as JSON, XML, CDA
- Experience with networking and file transfer protocols such as TCP-IP, VPN sFTP/FTPs), HTTP/S web services, REST/SOAP, and the requisite certificate authentication methods.
- Experience developing APIs and integrating with external systems using secure transport and authentication methods. Strong experience with data mapping and transformation, logic between source systems, laboratory LIS/LIMS, EHRs and HIS systems and other target systems through the engine. Experience with software development lifecycle principles and version controls
- Ability to translate functional/clinical requirements into interface specifications and complete technical designs
- Clear effective oral and written communication skills, in the English language.
Education/Experience
- Five years experience in healthcare IT interface development with a strong emphasis on HL7, interface engine technology and requirements.
- Extensive experience developing and maintaining interfaces in Corepoint Integration Engine
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics or equivalent real world experience
Ability and/or Skills
- Strong project planning, leadership, negotiation and communication skills as well as an ability to contribute creative and practical solutions to problems.
- Excellent organization, communication skills (English oral and written) and attention to detail, committed to quality and timely deliverables
- Experience with system integration design, data flow architecture and scalable solutions design.
- Strong testing skills, building test plans, performing interface validation, error analysis and regression testing
- Troubleshooting production issues, determining root causes, and implementing fixes under SLA requirements
- On-call support rotation capability
- Knowledge of clinical workflows, lab system requirements, lab order and results handling in the US clinical space
- Exposure to EHR systems, such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc., and strong understanding of how they interface with Corepoint. Understanding HIPAA and various other compliance/privacy/security requirements and compliance standards around healthcare data integration
- Ability to work closely with clinical stakeholders, project managers, WQA teams, vendors and cross functional IT teams
- Excellent documentation skills
- Excellent clear written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
