Job Description


Provides guidance, oversight and support for the daily operations of the Crisis Response Team staff across LA Metro’s rail and bus system.

  • Oversees team(s) who evaluate individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, determine appropriate interventions, and facilitate connections to critical resources
  • Supports and evaluates the delivery of mental health interventions
  • Responds to requests for in-field support and ensures effective coordination of services that reduce unnecessary engagement with the justice system
  • Provides clinical supervision for team members
  • Performs field-based comprehensive needs assessments
  • Identifies applicable resources for individuals in crisis and submits referrals
  • If certified, prepares Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) applications for individuals requiring holds for immediate 72-hour detention at a stabilizing facility
  • Conducts verbal wellness checks on individuals showing signs of distress to assess the need for support or assistance
  • Provides support in responding to medical emergencies on the Metro transit system by initiating contact with paramedic services, collecting information, providing logistical support, and administering NARCAN (naloxone), CPR, and/or first aid, as necessary.
  • Prepares operational and performance reports
  • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.  
Education
  • Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or related field
Experience
  • Six years of relevant experience or three years of relevant supervisory-level experience providing services to individuals with mental health conditions in either a clinical setting or as part of a field-based team
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • A valid, current and unrestricted clinical license, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW), Psychologist (Psy.D.) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity. These criteria are considered preferred qualifications and are not intended to serve as minimum requirements for the position. PQs will help support selection decisions throughout the recruitment. The following are the preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in a behavioral health crisis response team or program, including delivering or oversight of the delivery of behavioral health services 
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, including effective collaboration with labor representatives

  • Comprehensive needs assessments and evaluation
  • Methods of field-based outreach and engagement 
  • Crisis response for individuals with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders
  • Resources applicable to mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders
  • Cultural and situational awareness, such as cultural sensitivity and unconscious bias
  • Principles and practices of customer service 
Skill in(defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Managing staff who engage with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders
  • Performing mental health assessments and determining appropriate interventions
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Problem solving
  • Operating a personal computer, tablet, and/or smart device

  • Demonstrate effective management and leadership of staff
  • Respond calmly and quickly in stressful and emergency situations

  • Complete accurate incident reports
  • Maintain basic records

Working Conditions

  • Work after designated regular hours in case of special assignments or emergencies
