Marathon Petroleum is seeking an Occupational Health Registered Nurse with responsibility to the Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids eastern region. This role reports to Corporate Health Services within the Corporate HES&S organization. This function will support and deliver outcomes in the management of injured workers, case management of work-related injury and non-occupational disability (Medical Leave and Short-Term Disability), ADA, drug and alcohol collections, and medical surveillance exams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assessment of employee and contractor work-related illnesses and injuries, developing initial treatment plans and coordinating care in collaboration with an advanced practice provider or supervising physician, consistent with RN scope of practice. Performs follow-up evaluations, manages minor conditions ensuring care is appropriate, outcome-driven, and cost-effective. Provides routine and emergency medical response to incidents including after-hours call and provides staff support and after-hours coverage for projects, outages, and turnarounds (TAR).
- Provides enterprise-wide telephonic triage and case management for injured employees and contractors. Call rotation required (1:6 call) evenings and weekends, up to two Holidays per calendar year.
- Assists in all aspects of patient care including work-related illness and injury evaluation, case management, completion of The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated medical surveillance exams, drug and alcohol specimen collections, and blood specimen collections.
- Ownership of component case management for non-occupational illnesses and injuries including case management during the leave, communication and collaboration with the business, and determining appropriate and safe return to work conditions. Responsible for application of the company’s paid sick leave programs through the evaluation and certification of medical leave.
- Maintains ill or injured worker’s privacy and confidentiality, promotes safety and advocacy and adheres to ethical, legal, accreditation and regulatory standards
- May be required to provide emergency care, evaluation and follow up for occupational illness and injuries and provide health consultation, first aid, immunizations, and referrals for non-occupational issues at the onsite clinic.
- Maintains an understanding of current health regulations, OSHA exam requirements, and treatment guidelines for common exposures. Maintains Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance while promoting a professional, customer-focused, and collaborative environment.
- Documents medical information within the electronic medical record in accordance with Corporate Health Services and Corporate HES&S standards while maintaining employee confidentiality and privacy.
- Potential to support temporary staffing at other company health clinics including during turnarounds
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Expected Travel: 10%-20%
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Must have an unencumbered RN license in the state where the position is located.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an occupational health or related setting desired
Certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, CAOHC, Drug Collections and Breath Alcohol Testing, and Spirometry desired.
Familiar with state and federal requirements related to practice including OSHA, DOT, ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation.
Experience in occupational health case management
Valid driver's license required
Must be able to pass drug test and background check

Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven decision making.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The worker is required to have visual acuity and be capable of operating and viewing computers and other electronic devices for extended periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The environment is a fast-paced, deadline-oriented medical office environment. There will be access to confidential and sensitive information, requiring ongoing discretion and secure information management in paper and electronic form. The medical department is located within a secured petroleum refinery.
